Veteran director and pioneer of Indian Cinema Balu Mahendra passed away
The 74 year old veteran director was amongst the pioneers of Indian Cinema who breathed his last in the early hours of 13th Feb. Earlier he was admitted to the hospital in very critical condition. The doctors said he was brought in a highly critical stage. Director Bala, Ameer and Ram visited the hospital before he was pronounced dead.
Balu Mahendra has won 5 National Awards including 2 for his cinematography, 3 Filmfare Awards, and State Government Awards from Tamil Nadu, Andhra and Karnataka. His most acclaimed films include Kokila (Kannada), Mullum Malarum, Azhiyadha Kolangal, Moodu Pani and Moondram Pirai. His last directorial venture in which he also acted was Thalaimuraigal which received good response for his directorial and acting skills.
